Privacy policy

What data this site collects, why, and what we do not do with it.

The short version

MotorLogic is a reference site. There are no accounts, no logins and nothing to sign up for, so there is very little about you for us to hold. We do not sell personal information.

What we collect

  • Standard server logs. Requests to this site are logged with an IP address, timestamp, requested address, referring page and browser user-agent. These are used to keep the site running and to detect abuse.
  • Aggregate usage analytics. Which pages are read and roughly how they were reached, in aggregate, so we know which topics to improve. This is not tied to a named individual.
  • Search terms typed into this site's search box. Used in aggregate to find questions we have not answered. We do not attempt to associate them with an individual.
  • Anything you put in an email to us. Held only for as long as needed to deal with your message.

There is no account system, so we hold no names, passwords or payment details. We do not ask for your vehicle identification number and you should not send it to us.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent personal information.
  • We do not build advertising profiles about you or sell audience segments.
  • We do not require an account, and we do not ask for personal details to read anything.

Cookies

This site uses only what is necessary to serve pages and to measure aggregate usage. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies from their settings; this site remains fully readable if you do.

Third parties and outbound links

We link out to manufacturer documentation, government sources such as NHTSA, and industry bodies. Those sites have their own privacy practices and this policy does not cover them. Hosting and analytics are handled by service providers who process data on our behalf under their own terms.

Your rights and contact

Depending on where you live you may have the right to request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information we hold about you. Given that we hold almost none, this is usually a short conversation. Email privacy@motorlogic.example, or see contact for our other addresses. The terms of use cover the separate question of how the content itself should be relied on.

If this policy changes materially, the updated date on this page changes and the substance of the change is described here rather than silently replaced.
